AI philosophy
An open, modular, interoperable and human-in-the-loop architecture.
BRL combines conventional tools, artificial-intelligence models and human validation for heritage, museums and research. It is not dependent on any single model or provider.
Reasoning & assistance models
General-purpose, specialized, institutional or locally hosted models can be selected according to the task and data.
Visual creation & image processing
Image creation, photographic processing, restoration, segmentation and graphic design support communication and interpretation workflows.
Digitization, 3D & restitution
3D scanning, photogrammetry and modelling support documentation, digital restoration and immersive environments.
3D processing & optimization
Meshes, retopology, texturing, decimation and WebGL optimization connect source data, 3D objects and interactive scenes.
Development, integration & deployment
Programming, automation, APIs and web deployment connect the different tools into reproducible workflows.
People, validation & purposes
Researchers, engineers, creators, institutions and partners define goals and validate outputs. Technology remains a means, not the scientific purpose.
An architecture designed to evolve
Choosing a tool is not an end in itself. Each component can be replaced, disabled or reconfigured according to the nature of the data, project needs, available performance, legal or ethical constraints and evolving institutional guidance. Scientific, heritage and creative questions remain human-defined.
Open and replaceable architecture
BRL is not “one AI”. It organizes conventional and AI-assisted tools into modular workflows. A model, service or platform can be replaced without redesigning the whole architecture.Human validation and responsibility
AI can assist research, programming, imaging or 3D tasks, but it does not replace expertise, responsibility or scientific validation. Outputs remain subject to qualified human review.Data and use adapted to context
Technical choices take account of confidentiality, rights, consent, hosting, traceability and conditions of use. Not all materials should be processed in the same way.Institutional framework. BRL’s philosophy follows principles of research integrity and responsibility promoted by CNRS and its Ethics Committee (COMETS): reliability, responsibility, transparency, intellectual property and attention to the consequences of technology use.
The architecture is deliberately designed to adapt to current institutional rules, recommendations and tools. This applies to AI models, hosting services, processing tools and data-access methods.
This page describes the design philosophy of Billy Research Lab. It does not constitute approval, certification or institutional validation of BRL by CNRS, COMETS or any other institution.
Knowledge, creation and sharing remain the purpose.
